Use of a crystal structur as a lightweight element

The development aimed to achieve maximum possible rigidity with minimum use of materials. Beside the result should be reached with a minimum of production costs. Based on geometric considerations, a crystal lattice compiled of triangles and comparable to the structure of a crystal was to be produced. With such a symmetric lattice, forces introduced are to be dispersed to the adjoining areas and edges, giving an optimum structure. The known approaches are complex to produce and also often restricted in the materials that can be used. The light construction elements presented here can be simply produced in every dimension, from every material and in many forms. Strips of the material used are cut diagonally at an angle of approx. 60°C and interlocked with one another at right angles. The resulting structure is depicted below.
